Hyper-Personalisation: Are Some Specialties Showing Us What the Future of Healthcare Looks Like?

When people talk about the future of healthcare, personalised care and hyper-personalisation is always part of the conversation.

The idea is compelling. Better use of data, technology, and patient insights could help healthcare professionals make more informed decisions, tailor treatments more effectively, and ultimately improve outcomes.

But rather than focusing on what could be, in the future, what do we find if if we look at where it’s already gaining momentum today?

In the latest wave of the All Global Future Trends Tracking Programme, we explored healthcare professionals’ views on hyper-personalisation across six markets and 19 specialties. While overall adoption remains in relatively early stages, some specialties stood out for their confidence in where things are heading next.

The strongest signals came from:

  • Oncology (45%)
  • Haematology (40%)
  • Gastroenterology (36%)
  • Cardiology (34%)

In each of these specialties, healthcare professionals said they are likely to increase their use of hyper-personalised approaches over the next two years. That’s a significant finding, indicating strong impact now, before looking 10+ years into the future.

Why These Specialties?

It’s perhaps not surprising that oncology sits at the top of the list, alongside haematology.

Cancer and blood disorder care have long been moving towards more individualised treatment pathways. Clinicians are already working with increasingly detailed patient information, from genetic markers to treatment histories, making personalised approaches a natural extension of existing practice.

But oncology and haematology aren’t alone. Gastroenterology and cardiology manage complex patient populations where treatment decisions can vary from one individual to another. In these environments, better use of data and patient-specific insights has the potential to support more informed decision-making and improve patient care.

What makes these findings particularly interesting is that they suggest hyper-personalisation is no longer being viewed simply as a future ambition. In some areas of healthcare, it is increasingly being seen as a practical tool that can support clinical decision-making today.

Why Hyper-Personalisation Matters in These Specialties

Across healthcare, there is a growing recognition that not all patients are the same.

Two people with the same diagnosis may respond differently to treatment. They may have different risk factors, different circumstances, and different priorities when it comes to their care.

That’s why the conversation around personalised care continues to grow. Healthcare systems worldwide are exploring how data, technology, and clinical expertise can work together to support more tailored approaches for individual patients.

The confidence shown by oncologists, haematologists, and gastroenterologists suggests that momentum is building. These specialties may not have all the answers, but they could provide an early indication of where healthcare is heading next.

If today’s leaders are already increasing their use of hyper-personalised approaches, the questions become: how quickly can healthcare organisations turn that potential into everyday practice? And, what can the wider industry learn from the specialties already embracing this change?
